Iowa
State
Patrol Celebrates 75 Years of Service
Posted 19 July 2010
The Iowa Department
of Public Safety’s Iowa State Patrol Division (ISP) celebrates 75 years
of service. The Iowa Highway Safety Patrol began serving Iowans on July
28, 1935.
The duties of a state trooper have increased dramatically over the past
75 years, however the motto and mission of Iowa State Patrol has not
changed. “The motto of ‘COURTESY, SERVICE AND PROTECTION’ provides the
framework of how our personnel approach every aspect of their duties.
The Iowa State Patrol’s primary mission continues to focus on saving
lives through traffic enforcement. In addition, state troopers respond
and provide a sustained assistance to local agencies during large scale
events or natural disasters that have occurred in the state. The
ISP continually provides valuable assistance to various county
municipal and federal agencies
