$31
Million In City Street And County Road Projects
Posted 6 May 2009
Governor
Chet Culver announced 27 city street and county road projects valued at
more than $31 million were let by the Iowa Department of Transportation
(DOT) as part of the second round of local projects funded in total or
part through the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act.
Acceptance of low-bid proposals and the awarding of contracts are
subject to local governmental approval. The low bids for all 27
projects totaled $31,020,909.47. Of that amount, $21,193,965.37 in
funds from the Recovery Act have been authorized for the projects. The
remaining $9,826,944.10 in project costs will be paid for with other
funds.
Governor Culver said: “These shovel-ready projects will create good
jobs for Iowans, while making lasting improvements to our city streets
and county roads. As Governor, I am committed to seeing these funds
utilized quickly to put Iowans back to work. And combined with the
I-JOBS program, these federal dollars will help us rebuild our state
and economy.”
Iowa will receive approximately $358 million for state and local
highway and bridge projects through the Recovery Act. In addition,
Governor Culver’s $830 million I-JOBS Initiative provides $115 million
for road and bridge construction throughout the state. Passed recently
by the legislature, I-JOBS was the Culver Administration’s top
legislative priority for the 2009 session.
Combined with regular state and federal highway funds, and carry-over
work from the 2008 construction season, Iowa will set an all-time
record for highway and bridge spending in 2009.
