Popular Minimester Classes Now Offered in Summer

Community College is responding to the needs of students and is excited
to be able to offer accelerated classes in the summer for the first
time ever for August Minimesters. If individuals are interested in
picking up two or three hours of college credit in eight class days,
check out Hawkeye Community College's August Minimesters. The
Minimesters run July 30 through August 11. These intensive courses
allow students to accelerate their college career. Minimesters offer
the opportunity to do intensive studying in Communications, Music,
Psychology, Sociology, and much more. Depending on your major, classes
may count toward university electives, general education, or major
requirements. It is recommended students visit with their advisor for
transfer credit information.
Minimesters are also offered in May and again during the December
break. The Minimester classes proved to be very popular each year
during semester breaks and helped students move more quickly toward
their degree by earning 2 to 3 hours of college credit over the break.
Many students, including those who are home in the area for their
college break and individuals who have thought about going to college
but just can't find the time will be pleased with the offerings again
this year.
The following 3-credit classes will be offered during the summer break:
Fundamentals of Oral Communication, US History to 1877, Music
Appreciation, Introduction to Psychology, Introduction to Sociology,
and Marriage and Family. The college is also offering Personal Wellness
for 2-credit hours.
Minimesters run on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. Students
will have Saturdays, Sundays, and Wednesdays off. Most 3-hour credit
classes will be held from 9:00am-12:00 noon. (with an hour lunch break)
and then will pick up from 1:00–4:00pm, The 2-credit hour class is a
web class. Classes will be held in Black Hawk Hall on Hawkeye's main
campus, located at 1501 East Orange Road, Waterloo.
