SeniorTech Computer Classes Begin Week of June 1

A variety of
SeniorTech computer classes offered by Hawkeye Community College will
begin the week of June 1 in Cedar Falls. These classes are designed for
individuals over the age of 50 who are interested in learning computer
skills and/or advancing their computer skills. Class time is provided
for participants to receive extra help or practice skills learned. All
classes will be held at Hawkeye's Cedar Falls Center located at 5330
Nordic Drive.
"Computer Basics" will teach the beginner computer vocabulary, basic
word processing, and provide participants an understanding of the
operating system. In addition, participants will learn how to locate
items on the computer, how to use a mouse and keyboard, and how to work
with pictures and clip art. "Computer Basics" will meet June 2 through
July 23 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:30-4:30pm. The cost for the
class is $99. "Internet and Email" will teach participants web basics,
surfing the Internet safely, how to type in web page addresses, how to
conduct searches on the Internet, email basics, adding attachments to
email, how to download files from the Internet to the computer, and
using favorites. The "Internet and Email" class will meet June 2
through July 23 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:30-4:30pm. The cost
for the class is $99.
"Digital Memories" will teach participants how to layout digital photos
and create a keepsake memory book. Each participant will receive a copy
of the program and a published book. The "Digital Memories" class will
meet June 1, 2, and 3 from 8:30-11:30am. The cost for the class is $75.
"Digital Cameras" will teach participants how to use the camera, to
transfer photos to the computer, and how to print and share photos.
"Digital Cameras" will meet June 8 and 10 from 9:00-11:00am. The cost
for the class is $25.
"Photo Editing with Picasa" will teach participants how to use the free
program, Picasa, to edit digital photos. Participants will learn how to
turn dark photos into wonderful ones, crop and resize photos, and apply
various photo techniques. "Photo Editing with Picasa" will meet June 15
and 17 from 9:00-11:00am. The cost for the class is $25.
